About Dr. Lisa Dobberteen

Working with children and their families from
around the corner and around the world has
made Dr. Dobberteen a passionate advocate
for her young patients.


Dr. Lisa Dobberteen is a pediatrician at Cambridge Family Health, part of the Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and an assistant professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.


Teaching and Mentoring

Dr. Dobberteen enjoys teaching pediatric residents and medical students academically focused general pediatrics in a diverse community setting. She also mentors pediatric residents and medical students interested in teaching, community advocacy and school health.


As the medical director for School Health services for the Cambridge Public Health Department, Dr. Dobberteen is responsible for crafting and communicating polices and
essential medical information to school nurses, educators and parents, and keeping the school health staff up-to-date
on pediatric topics. Summertime finds her overseeing the health of children in camps throughout the area.


Community Outreach

Dr. Dobberteen is the director of READ (Read Each And every Day), a childhood literacy program which promotes the importance of reading in primary care settings throughout the Cambridge Health Alliance. READ provides books and guidance

20,000 books annually.
about reading at all well-child and sick visits from newborns through the teen years. READ is proud to receive generous support on an ongoing basis from ROR (Reach Out and Read), RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), as well as support from individuals and foundations including Target, State Street Foundation, Cambridge Community Foundation, Somerville Health Foundation, and others.



Dr. Dobberteen is a member of the Board of Directors of Sunshine Nursery School (Arlington, MA),The Anne E. Borghesani Community Foundation, and Ummeed Child Development Center in Mumbai, India. she enjoys speaking to community groups, school personnel and child care professionals on a variety of topics related to children and their health.


Author

Dr. Dobberteen's book, Love and Limits In & Out of Child Care, What Your Child Care Provider and Pediatrician Want You to Know was written with child care provider Margaret Thomas and her husband Richard. An invaluable resource for parents to address the issues that arise in a child's life from birth through age five, Love and Limits covers a comprehensive list of topics including dealing with separation anxiety, negotiating the logistics of child care — sick days, payment, vacations, and more, and how to work collaboratively with your child care provider, as well as key topics for parents of young children such as potty-training, sleep and feeding issues.


Charmingly illustrated by noted children's illustrator Susanna Natti, the book provides a warm, encouraging guide for families raising children in today's complex world.
